Out of This World Maintenance

Against the rugged beauty of Alaska, an unexpected worker has joined the Trans-Alaska Pipeline crew. Bundled in a jacket and kneeling in the snow, a little green Martian carefully tends to the pipeline, tools and equipment at his side. The enormous pipeline stretches toward the distant mountains, making his small figure—and very serious concentration—even more amusing.

Blending one of Alaska's most recognizable landmarks with a touch of science-fiction whimsy, this painting imagines what might happen if visitors from another world didn't come to conquer Earth at all—they simply came to Alaska and got a job.
