“Lehi’s Dream – 1 Nephi 8”
This painting is inspired by the sacred vision recorded in 1 Nephi 8 in the Book of Mormon. In his dream, the prophet Lehi saw the Tree of Life, representing the love of God, whose fruit was most desirable above all things. He also saw the strait and narrow path, the river that divided, and the great and spacious building filled with those who mocked from above.
In this work, the Tree stands firmly rooted, symbolizing covenant foundation and enduring faith in Jesus Christ. The path, bordered by stones, represents the steady, deliberate steps of discipleship. The river flows through a deep divide, reminding us that choices create separation and that the journey requires vigilance. The towering structure reflects the pride and distractions of the world that seek to draw hearts away from eternal truth.
The scriptural text woven into the background signifies the Word of God as the underlying foundation for all spiritual progression. It is through revelation and scripture that the path is made clear.
My intention in creating this piece was not merely to depict a vision, but to invite reflection. Each viewer stands somewhere along this path. The invitation remains the same today as it was in Lehi’s time: to press forward with steadfastness in Christ, to hold fast to the word of God, and to partake of His love.
