After the Lights Go Out

By day, a mischievous jack-o’-lantern sits beneath a moonlit Halloween sky as tiny three-dimensional ghosts burst from its open top. A crooked haunted house waits in the distance while bats cross the full moon and autumn leaves scatter across the pumpkin patch.

But this painting holds a secret.

When the lights go out, the scene transforms. Glow-in-the-dark paint illuminates the jack-o’-lantern's sinister grin, the moon and the escaping spirits, allowing the ghosts to seemingly float free from the darkness.

Combining acrylic painting, dimensional mixed media and glow-in-the-dark elements, After the Lights Go Out was created to be experienced twice—once in the light, and once again when the haunting begins.
